Step Five – Get the right team.
You need to ensure that you have the correct team around you and this may be both external and internal. For example you will need a good accountant, tax advisor, bookkeeping person who will understand your business sector, and will be experienced enough to add value but is also affordable. Therefore, going for the largest firm of accountants may not be the most cost effective course of action and the interaction you have with the accountants maybe more remote on a day to day basis that you require for the challenges of running a small start up company.
Bookkeeping and accounting are important but should not be the main focus of your attention, your team should managing your accounting and taxation affairs to ensure that you can concentrate on developing you business.
The same challenges goes when hiring internal staff, you will need someone who compliments your skills not matches them, you are looking to move the business forward so you need to consider what needs to be done and who can do it, typically in a start up there will be a lot of blurring of roles and therefore having a team that are flexible and competent is a key to success.
